As of 11/21/24, 2 HP ProBook 440 G10 laptops have had this issue. Appears to happen after Windows updates. Our best guess is a BIOS or other firmware update is breaking something.
No Office product will sign in. Saying there is a TPM error. When going to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Windows Security -> Device Security -> Security processor details you will see no TPM chip present on the machine.
For Talis, I had gone to
%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy
and renamed to
%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewyOLD.
Note, you have to do this as helpdesk since that folder is "always" in use and you can't rename it logged in as the user.
Since I was planning to reset the TPM, disable bitlocker and let it decrypt.
In Talis' case, the next day, everything worked.
For Nyng, I did the same process and in the end, did have to clear the TPM from within the BIOS. This is under the Security tab and TPM. Choose the option to clear/reset TPM on next boot.
Note, the first logins to Office products still complained about TPM but worked anyway and then no more messages. TPM chip shows as listed under Security processor details as well. Turn on bitlocker again, backup the key, reboot, and all is fine.
